Consent

Usage of Flames is reliant on the informed consent of each user. Flames doesn't collect data from users who don't consent or revoke their consent.

Flames collects data from consenting users, including their Discord user ID and message content. Many users consider this data sensitive.

Discord User IDs

Flames links your Discord profile to your Flames profile through your Discord user ID. This is an identifiable data point. This number only connects back to whatever information you have on your Discord profile.

Keep Yourself Safe.

Message Content

The collection of message content by an automated program within the context of Discord is generally considered poor practice. Due to the nature of Flames, we had to break that rule a little bit. Below is a overview of how we do it.'

Step 1: Initial Processing

When a consenting user sends a message in a Flames server, the message content is sent without connection to your Discord profile (or any other personal identifiers) to Google for analysis. This lets Flames identify the mood of the message, and what the message is talking about. The results get sent back to Flames.

Step 2: Topics and What You're Talking About

The entity analysis data (or, what you're talking about) is saved into your user data, along with the sentiment analysis data, which is the overall "mood" of the message. This information is stored long-term. Your message content is not stored long-term (except in a few scenarios, discussed in the next section.)

Step 3: Quotes

Flames saves quotes that include the exact message content, username of sender, and timestamp of the message. This may get saved to your user or server data in the long term. You can opt out of the storage of exact message content in the consent dialog.

Here's the different quotes that may be saved:

  • The "Quote of the Day", visible in the Today panel

  • Your "User Quote", visible in the Me panel

  • The "Server Quote", visible in the Server panel

When any of the quotes is updated, the old quote is permanently erased. Flames does not store a history of quotes.

The Important Bit

Your data is not for sale. We don't advertise in any capacity and do not have agreements or partnerships with any organizations that collect or sell data. Flames data is only used for Flames.

For more information, see the Privacy Policy.

We hope you enjoy using Flames.
